God is not predictable.

There isn't a code of conduct for His actions.

Well God is going to probably have that guy you're having sex with break off contact with you so your heart will be broken & you will reluctantly go back into 'His loving arms'.

Well since you have been so great with your tithing in the church, God has a big reward for you! He is going to send you a check in the mail from a total stranger.

Well if you really pray about your friend forgiving you for spilling her secret & half the school finding out she made out with your other friends boyfriend, God will zap her with His power & make her totally forget it even happened.

Driving recklessly down the road, lost in Hillsong United & small talk with God, I was meditating on one verse in the book of Psalms I had read earlier in the morning in my morning devotional Come, Sit, Stay, by the faith-filled Ellen Vaughn. Be still & know I am the Lord your God. The verse is the new trend in the Christian faith, the new "for God so loved the world", but the translation in the devotional opened my eyes to see the verse from a different perspective.

"Cease striving & know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10 NASB)

Stop trying to give second hand advice to friends who have yet to go to the source.
We are a culture of running. In society, doing things faster is doing them best. How many times when we are faced with a tough decision do we STOP to ask God, before trying to make solutions ourselves along the ways. We keep moving in a direction, jogging one way asking God alongside us if this was the route He intended us to take. Cease striving. Be still. Give God the chance to unveil His mysteries. Give Him the chance to be God.

Experience the living water- Jesus permits you.
Being still & waiting for God to lead is not a passive thing. It is an active trust... It would be a lot easier if we could apply a formula in every situation, as in, okay, I'll just wait for God to do a miracle every time. Or I'll just charge ahead & take care of this myself. Every time. But our connection with Jesus can't be boiled down to formulas & rules. That's because it's a relationship, not a religon. With Jesus, we're giving ourselves over to a Person who is alive & dynamic. (Come, Sit, Stay 122)
Our God is not dead. He is living, breathing, & inside of you, awaiting you to ask his voice of the matter. Sometimes after you're still & ask His wisdom, He will tell you He's got it from here. I want to fight for you. Sometimes being still will be followed by Him telling you to get up & take care of it. But He is faithful, & He never leaves you, nor does He put you in a position with a heavier load than you can handle with out pointing out the escape route. He will direct you, if you will listen. Which requires trust.

Trust issues.
We all have them, don't we? It's a battle in the dating world, who has the cooler, bigger scar. The good news  of Jesus involves this- you can trust God not to break your whole heart. In fact, He promises healing to those who allow His full on presence in their lives- forget the bandages. Jesus is our proof that God is faithful & keeps His promises. That doesn't mean the way you believe He should act in your head will come true, because our God is bigger than that. He made us, & knows us better than we know ourselves. Who am I to counsel my Maker on the 'right' response to things, or to give Him the best advice. He is God, I am not. Leave the unpredictability to God, while we allow ourselves to be creatures of habit.

Stop running.
Ask God.
Listen for Him.
Listen to Him.
